The Rice Grannary is stocked with spam received from friends. Since most spam is not worth keeping, only the good ones are kept. Actually, spam is a canned precooked meat product made by Hormel Foods, first introduced in 1937. Since fresh meat was difficult to get to the soldiers on the front, World War II saw GIs eating Spam for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In the Philippines, after World War II, surpluses of Spam found their way from the US military bases at Subic and Angeles to the local market.
